Tickets and prices for public transport in Bratislava

When buying tickets for public transport in Bratislava there are several different options to consider. The two common properties of all tickets are that they can be used for an unlimited number of journeys within their time validity and are valid for all routes in their respective fare zones, including night routes.

Prices

The validity of tickets for a single journey is limited by time and by the number of travelled zones. You need to validate the ticket in the ticket validator inside the vehicle upon boarding the first vehicle (except for trains, where the validation machine is located on the station platform). The passenger can change without limit within the ticket validity and can combine the services of all operators of integrated transport in the Bratislava region without any restrictions. Passengers do not need to validate the ticket again when changing to another vehicle. The number of zones the ticket is valid for cannot be exceeded.

Important note: Zone 100 counts for 2 zones, with the exception of journeys within Bratislava (i.e. without travelling to or from regional zones), where the two-zone ticket can be used for travelling from zone 100 to zone 101 and vice versa. Basically, for journeys within Bratislava only the time validity of a single-journey ticket is taken into account. The zone validity of a single-journey ticket is significant for travelling to and from regional zones.

Time validity Fare zones Standard price
30 minutes 2 €0.90
60 minutes 3 €1.30
90 minutes 5 €2.10

Day tickets

Instead of buying a ticket each time you travel you can buy a day ticket for 24h, 72h, or 168h, depending on how long you stay in Bratislava. Passengers with a day ticket can change without limit within the ticket validity and can also combine the services of all operators of integrated transport in the Bratislava region without any restrictions. Day tickets need to be validated in the ticket validator inside the vehicle upon boarding the first vehicle (except for trains, where the validation machine is located on the station platform). Tickets do not need to be validated again when changing to another vehicle.

On weekends and public holidays day tickets can be used for transportation of a group with children. One ticket is valid for up to two adults and three children (up to and including 15 years old). The group must include at least one adult and one child (it is not allowed to use one ticket for two adults without children, or more children without an adult).

Validity/zones Standard price
4 hours/100+101 €4.00
24 hours/all zones €6.90
72 hours/100+101 €9.00
168 hours/100+101 €12.00

These tickets can be purchased in paper or electronic form. Details on costs for the city passes and maps of the zones are available at: https://imhd.sk/ba/doc/en/20709/20709

SMS tickets

SMS tickets are valid only on lines of Dopravné podniku Bratislava in zones 100 and 101 and can only be purchased for phone numbers of Slovak mobile operators. The price of the SMS ticket also includes import fees for hand luggage. Discounted SMS tickets are not provided.

Time validity Basic fare Purchase instructions
40 minutes €1.00 any character to number 1140
70 minutes €1.40 any character to number 1100
24 hours €4.50 any character to the number 1124

Passengers can board the public transport vehicle only after receiving a return message with an SMS ticket. If the SMS ticket does not arrive within 10 minutes of sending the SMS, the ticket order is automatically cancelled. If passengers accidentally deletes the return SMS, you can get a duplicate ticket by sending an SMS to the number 1101. The duplicate can be used even if the return SMS does not arrive for more than 2 minutes, to verify whether the original ticket was "lost" on the way.

One-way ticket purchased with a payment card

  • 1 trip by public transport Bratislava: €1.00
  • First transfer within 45 minutes: €0.00 (the card must be attached to the marker even when transferring)
  • Daily travel limit: €4.00

An electronic travel ticket can be purchased with a payment card only in vehicles of Dopravné podnik Bratislava on Bratislava public transport lines (it cannot be purchased on regional buses and trains and is not valid there either). Discounted tickets are not provided. The purchase of a ticket is carried out in a public transport vehicle by attaching a regular payment card (Mastercard, Maestro, VISA) to the ticket marker marked with the contactless payment symbol. The purchase of a ticket is confirmed by a message on the display of the marker (no paper ticket is printed). The ticket can only be purchased for the card holder. It is not possible to purchase a ticket for a fellow passenger.

Every time you get into the vehicle (even when transferring), you need to attach the payment card to the marker with the contactless payment symbol. In case of the first transfer within 45 minutes of the purchase of the ticket, after presenting the card in the second vehicle, €0.00 will be charged (free ride).

After reaching the daily fare limit, additional tickets purchased on the given day will not be charged. If the passenger has a payment card in physical form and in an electronic application, the daily limit is calculated separately for each of them.

Detailed information on the various tickets and purchase options is provided at: https://imhd.sk/ba/doc/en/20709/20709
